Open a new image at the size of the texture. Then select all
Edit--->Define--->Pattern
Theres a new pattern, instead of using a paint bucket tool, select your circular area and then go to your blending options and use pattern overlay.

Hey guys, I'm new to the boards and pretty new to photoshop. I was working on this tutorial and was almost to the end of the first step when I ran into some problems lol. Everything went perfectly until I had to fill in the "feathered section" to shade the planet. For some reason when I try to fill in the area I lassoed on the Lighting layer the shading won't show up. You can see the edges of the shading outside of the planet but on the planet itself the shading won't show up. Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong?

Yes, your shading layer is below the planet layer, move the shading layer to the top.

Open your layers palette and move it above everything else It will turn out to be quite large area covered by the feathering. Dont be alamred just select free transform and move it around a bit. Goodluck
